Are you a parent? If you are, you may not realize how important parenting actually is. You have a life that totally depends on you for everything and that’s huge. Contributing to society is another thing that you are doing by raising your child. And that can have many outcomes, as you know, so naturally you want to do the best thing. You have to create a great foundation for your kids so they can become adults that are responsible. There are different approaches for this, but the important thing is to accomplish it.

On Spanking

There was a recent article in the news about new research that points to spanking can lead to some forms of mental illness. These conclusions have generated a lot of controversy and have lead to much debate and disagreement. Even so, if you have been paying attention, you will have noticed a trend in physical punishment modes for children that has been building for the last ten years or so. This fairly new thinking regarding spanking needs to be viewed in context, however, as spanking was a most used form of punishment for decades. How you decide to punish your children is a personal decision each parent must make. There are many effective forms of punishment that aren’t physical. Positive reinforcement has become quite a popular approach to training children, and there are many different methods to choose from. Most likely, a common-sense combination of alternatives to spanking may be a desirable option.

Approaches to Discipline

Parenting personalities come in different types, according to research, and the context you find yourself in, you should think about, because it will be helpful. The only way your contribution will be positive is when you are honest with yourself in a totally real way. Some parents discipline real easily, while others have a hard time, and that is the parenting trait that makes them different. There is a synergistic way that both spouses can work together to produce positive results. It is okay to use complementary approaches, because it is a team effort. Two people seldom have the same traits, so it is important to find out which each one has, so they can be used in the best way. How you do this will need to be worked on, but it can benefit everyone when it is worked out.

Obesity in Children

Children in the US, during the last 10 to 15 years, have greatly increased in the rate of obesity and obesity-related diseases. Children who are young are unfortunately the target of much of today’s food. And the main culprit in so many foods and snacks is high fructose corn syrup. You can deal with this problem quite effectively when you know what it is and try to eliminate it from your children’s diet. You could be challenged by this every day, so it will be a struggle that is not going away. There is no easy solution or way to put it so it sounds easy. If you keep reminding yourself that you love your children, that will help. Since parents decide for their children what foods will be in the house, keep out the unhealthy foods.

Parents try their best, but are often motivated to do their parenting based upon our own experiences growing up. Indeed, some highly negative behaviors get passed from one generation to the next. Some type of break must occur, or else these negative behaviors will continue on through family lines.
